About Our Club

The West Pasco Model Railroad Association (WPMRA) is a non-profit 501c(3) corporation composed of a group of model railroad enthusiasts modeling in HO and N scale. We have permanent HO and N scale layouts.

The West Pasco Model Railroad Association was formed in 1982 when several New Port Richey area railroad modelers decided to join together to share their enjoyment of the hobby. A small HO scale layout was soon built and placed on display at a local lumber company and membership began to grow. The WPMRA found more permanent quarters in the New Port Richey Art’s Center, where, beginning in 1988, the first large HO scale layout was begun. The WPMRA’s members made use of every bit of space afforded the club, but unfortunately, even after a complete rebuilding of the initial layout, the membership wanted to do more.

During the late Fall of 2014 the WPMRA took a significant step when it moved to new quarters near SR54 and Madison Street. At that location we built very large, all DCC, HO and N scale layouts pictured elsewhere on this website. Then in 2023, the club moved again … this time into what we hope will be a permanent home on Osceola Drive.

While a great deal of progress has rapidly been made in rebuilding our layouts, there is still a great deal to be done, and many opportunities for new members to learn the skills that make model railroading the fascinating hobby that it is. The WPMRA has over 35 members and there is still room for more. While many members live in the New Port Richey area, we also have members from Hudson, Spring Hill, Wesley Chapel, Tarpon Springs, Palm Harbor, Dunedin, Citrus Park, Odessa and Zephyrhills. We also have “snowbird” members who are only with us part of the year, and youth members who are sponsored by an adult member. We would love to have you join us!

WPMRA offers multiple opportunity to enjoy the modeling experience. We have Open Running on Wednesday night for HO and Operations sessions on Friday night. Our N Scale members Open Running is still available on Thursday.  The Operations sessions run scheduled trains which have specific set out and pickups to give the operator as sense of running just like the prototype railroads.

Additionally, twice a year we have an Open House where the public is invited to view the layouts and see trains being run. Quarterly we have Moonlight Runs which are only open to the club members. We run at night with the lights out and small blue lights high on the walls for safety. The lighting is from the structures and from the trains themselves. Videos of these sessions are found on our YouTube Channel.
